Temporary Closure of Makaha Resort

PRESS RELEASE

Waianae, Hawaii - Northwynd Properties, Ltd. announced today a temporary closure of the Makaha Resort, located in Waianae, Hawaii.

The Makaha Resort is owned and operated by Northwynd Resort Properties, a Canadian owned developer and marketer of interval vacation ownership condominiums and resort properties. The Makaha Resort has been a destination on the Island of Oahu for many years, with a staff of 95 employees. Northwynd recently sold the golf course to Hawaiian Golf Properties and it is closed for renovation. Northwynd is now closing the resort for renovation and finalization of financing.

Today, Pat Fitzsimonds, Chief Executive Office of Northwynd Resort Properties, announced the temporary closure of the resort effective October 31, 2011. While refinancing for the Makaha Resort is a priority to the company, finalization of the required capital has not yet been approved. At this time, there is no definitive date for reopening, but the company plans to reopen the property as soon as financing and renovations are completed. The renovation of the Makaha Resort will include a complete upgrade of the existing resort including the restaurant, bar, spa, meeting space and pool area. In addition, the existing 172 rooms and suites will be converted to 102 luxury timeshare apartments aligned with the vision of “Hawaii as it used to be.” The resort renovation permits are already in place. The level of quality will be commensurate with the renovation of the golf course, currently intended by the owner to be a world class Greg Norman golf course.

Kelly Cuff, General Manager of the Makaha Resort, said , “The staff members at Makaha Resort are a critical component to the operation and guest satisfaction, and it is our hope to be able to return to an operational status as soon as possible.”

FUTURE GUESTS

Guests with reservations booked directly through the hotel will be contacted and any advance deposits will be refunded.

Guest with reservations or vouchers through 3rd party websites (Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, Living Social, Groupon, Play Hawaii) should contact the 3rd party for a full refund.

Guests with gift certificates (including Ali'i Club) or complimentary room nights will be allowed to use those certificates for 2 months after the resort opens, or by their expiration date if it exceed 2 months after reopening.
